Nat Lofthouse was a player of my fathers generation. Remembered as a great gentleman of the game; certainly nothing like the spoilt young things that dominate todays game.

Susannah York: Every young mans fantasy (of a certain vintage) Wink

Sorry to see their passing.

36 is no age to be dying even for an ex-Spud. Thoughts have got to be with the family. Tragic.

Very sad for anyone of that age, and like Soulfusion said, thoughts are with the family at an extremely sad time

Wasn't publicised that he was ill either, unlike a lot of (ex)pros.

Not one of my favourite players but 36 is no age to lose your life.

I can remember when he signed for the Cockerel Ponces, I was gutted we didn't get him. Tough days.
100 years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like; but the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.

He was exceptionally good on a late SI version of CM or early FM iirc.

Good to hear the Wolves fans singing his name on MotD. Clearly well thought of round that area.

ANZAC Day

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

"Those heroes that shed their blood And lost their lives. You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side Here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, Who sent their sons from far away countries Wipe away your tears, Your sons are now lying in our bosom And are in peace After having lost their lives on this land they have Become our sons as well." - Kemal Atatürk

"The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war." - Douglas MacArthur

Shame to hear about Poly Styrene's untimely death of cancer yesterday. She was only 53.

She was the lead singer in X-Ray Spex when they burst onto the punk scene in 1977 and was often referred to as the first lady of punk.

First we lose snooker commentator Ted Lowe, which I guess is fair enough - he was 90 after all.

Now we've lost Henry Cooper at the age of 76 on the same day.

yeah, just saw on the news that Cooper had died - apparently he'd been ill for quite a while. Very sad.

RIP Seve.

Golf has few enough personalities to be able to afford to lose a giant like this man. A great loss. And only 54.
